About Royce McGlashen:
Royce McGlashen, born in Richmond, completed a Master Potter apprenticeship in 1971. After traveling, he established his Nelson studio and was awarded an MBE for his contributions to New Zealand pottery. A member of the International Academy of Ceramics, his work is in collections worldwide.
Royce has designed for Temuka Pottery, taught extensively, and mentored many emerging potters. Over 47 years, he has explored diverse forms and decorations, often inspired by New Zealand’s environment. His evolving tableware reflects contemporary lifestyles, using textured surfaces and locally produced white stoneware and paper clay.
At his Brightwater studio and gallery, visitors can view his functional and sculptural ceramics, including his signature teapots. Royce also paints, transitioning from pen and ink to acrylic, embracing abstract themes.
